The Sun as source of light and heat both generates and sustains life itself. Its creative energy was considered by many of our ancestors to be the male aspect which fertilised the Earth Mother, and because of its high position in the heavens, the Sun was regarded as all-seeing, and as such an object of worship.

To the ancient Egyptians the Sun disc, the ‘Aten’ was their divine ancestor. Sharing this belief, the Incas also adorned their Sun temples lavishly with gold. For Hindus, the Sun symbolises mankind’s higher self. Even for the Celtic Christians, the Sun was a worthy symbol of the face of God, impartially bestowing gifts on all people, the good and the evil alike.
